Students Pack Out Annual Â鶹ÉäÇø Talent Show

Posted on Friday, November 01, 2013

The annual student Talent Show, organized by the Student Activities Board, is one of the most popular events on campus. This year, the event took place on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 8 PM in Butterfield Chapel, and it was completely packed out!

To honor the “The Pacific NorthBEST” theme, students transformed the chapel stage into an incredible Pacific Northwest scene complete with real trees, a campout, and a mountainous backdrop. This show’s lineup included singer/songwriters, musicians, improvers, hip-hop/break-dancers, and a self-choreographed dance by CELE students.

The Winning Act: Ye Eun Jang and the Faces

This year’s winners were international CELE students Ye Eun Jang and the Faces with their self-choreographed dance performance that included a segment of the popular Gangnam Style dance. Official votes were cast by students via Twitter, but the crowd’s standing ovation and cheers for an encore were sure signs of the act’s popularity!

The entire talent lineup included the following (watch videos of each act below):

Surprise Performance from President Castleberry

To round out the evening while waiting for the final votes to come in, Â鶹ÉäÇø's very own President Joeseph Castleberry performed Johnny Cash's "A Boy Named Sue."

The entire crowd gave President "Joey Cash" and his band another of the many standing ovations of the evening. Students even live tweeted about the President's performance:

Endless Entertainment and Photos of the Talent Show

The evening's entertainment did not stop with the acts though. Both emcees, Sean Lidstrom and Emily Potts, as well as judges John Bacon, Andy Hall, and Sarah Jobson kept the laughs coming. even performed a warped speed version of the first half of the talent show acts in a hilarious comedy routine. Concessions provided for the evening helped to support Embargo, NU's human trafficking awareness group. Overall, it was certainly a Talent Show to remember.
